Chockalingam

Chockalingam S.P., popularly known as Chocku, is an Indian stand-up comedian, writer, and live performer who is regarded as one of the early comedians of the Tamil-language stand-up comedy movement. Performing primarily in Tamil and Tanglish (a blend of Tamil and English), he is known for his observational humor, storytelling style, and clean, relatable comedy based on everyday life experiences.

Chockalingam hails from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, and developed an interest in comedy during the growth of the Tamil stand-up scene in the mid-2010s. Inspired by comedian Praveen Kumar, he began performing at small café shows and open-mic events around 2016. Through regular performances and opening acts for established comedians, he gradually gained recognition within the South Indian comedy circuit.

His comedy often draws from personal experiences, family life, travel, relationships, cultural differences, and growing up in Madurai. Audiences have particularly appreciated his ability to transform ordinary situations into humorous stories while maintaining a family-friendly and non-offensive style. His performances frequently incorporate elements of Tamil culture and regional humor, making him popular among Tamil-speaking audiences in India and abroad.

Over the years, he has performed extensively across major Indian cities including Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Kolkata, and other locations. He has also shared stages with prominent Indian comedians and built a reputation as a veteran performer in the Tamil stand-up community.

In addition to live performances, he has established a digital presence through his YouTube channel, Chocku The Comic, where he releases stand-up specials and comedy videos. Several of his performances, including routines about Madurai, travel experiences, family vacations, and life after the age of thirty, have gained substantial online viewership and helped expand his audience beyond live comedy venues.

Chockalingam has also collaborated with fellow comedian Ramkumar Natarajan on projects such as Kutty Stories, a comedy format centered on short, humorous anecdotes and life experiences. His continued involvement in live shows, digital content creation, and Tamil-language comedy has made him a recognizable figure in the contemporary Tamil stand-up scene.
