Zakir Khan (born 20 August 1987) is an Indian stand-up comedian, writer, poet, actor, and storyteller who rose to national prominence after winning Comedy Central's competition "India's Best Stand Up" in 2012.

He is widely regarded as one of the biggest and most loved stand-up comedy acts in India, known for his deeply relatable humor that blends rustic wit with emotional honesty. He became the first Indian artist to perform a show entirely in Hindi at Madison Square Garden in New York, where he performed for 15,000 fans in August 2025.

Zakir Khan was born and raised in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, into a Rajasthani Muslim family steeped in classical music. His grandfather, Ustad Moinuddin Khan, was a celebrated sarangi maestro, and his father works as a music teacher.

He comes from a humble background and credits his father for being supportive of his talent. He holds a diploma in Sitar and is a college dropout who has stated that had he not become a stand-up comedian, he would have worked as a music teacher. He spent a large portion of his adult life in Delhi.

He gained recognition in India's stand-up comedy circuit in 2012 after winning "India's Best Stand Up," a competition organized by Comedy Central. His comedy style was applauded in NDTV Prime's "The Rising Stars of Comedy" television show.

He is known for his iconic punchline "Sakht Launda," a humorous reference to a man with strong self-control who resists romantic advances. He has released five hour-length stand-up specials on Amazon Prime Video: "Haq Se Single" (2017), "Kaksha Gyarvi" (2018), "Tathastu" (2022), "Mannpasand" (2023), and "Delulu Express" (2025).

Beyond stand-up comedy, he wrote and starred in the Amazon Prime web series "Chacha Vidhayak Hain Humare," showcasing his talent as both a writer and actor, playing the character Ronny Pathak across three seasons. In 2015, he co-hosted and wrote "On Air with AIB," a news comedy show with Sorabh Pant and Gursimran Khamba from All India Bakchod, which was broadcast on Star World, India.

In September 2017, he served as one of three mentors alongside Mallika Dua and Hussain Dalal for the fifth season of "The Great Indian Laughter Challenge," judged by actor Akshay Kumar. He also appeared as a judge in Amazon Prime's "Comicstaan" Season 2 and Season 3, mentoring contestants in anecdotal comedy.

Zakir Khan is an emerging Urdu poet who comes from a family of artists and has presented his poetry at events like Rekhta. He wrote his first poem, "Mai Soonya Pe Sawar Hoon," during a train journey to Delhi.

He has over seven million subscribers on YouTube and created the podcast series "Ummeed" on Gaana, where he shares life-inspired stories alongside fellow comedians. He also began his show "Farzi Mushaira," available on Amazon mini TV, where he serves as host and writer.

In January 2026, he announced an extended hiatus from live comedy performances, citing health concerns and personal reasons. He stated that the break could last three to five years, potentially until 2030, with his final shows from the ongoing "Papa Yaar" tour scheduled through June 2026.

His net worth is reportedly Rs 26.6 crore according to Sovrenn. He has been described by AIB founder Tanmay Bhat as "the biggest stand-up comedy act in India" after his appearance on AIB Diwas in 2016.
