A. R. Rahman is a renowned Indian music composer, record producer, singer, songwriter, musician, and philanthropist. He is known for his works in various languages, especially Tamil and Hindi, and has also composed music for international films.

He has won many awards and honors, including two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, six National Film Awards, and the Padma Bhushan. He was born on 6 January 1967 in Chennai, India, and started his career as a keyboard player and arranger.

He made his debut as a film composer with the 1992 Tamil film Roja, directed by Mani Ratnam. Since then, he has composed music for more than 200 films, including Bombay, Dil Se, Lagaan, Rang De Basanti, Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours, Rockstar, Highway, and OK Jaanu.
