S. S. Rajamouli

S. S. Rajamouli, born Koduri Srisaila Sri Rajamouli on October 10, 1973, in Raichur, Karnataka, is an acclaimed Indian film director and screenwriter who primarily works in Telugu cinema.

He is one of the most celebrated filmmakers in the Indian film industry and is widely recognized as the pioneer of the Pan-Indian films movement. Rajamouli was born into a Telugu family; his father is famed Tollywood storyteller V. Vijayendra Prasad (also known as K. V. Vijayendra Prasad) and his mother is Raja Nandini, with both parents hailing from Andhra Pradesh.

He earned an engineering degree from C. R. Reddy College of Engineering in Eluru before entering the film industry. He began his career directing soap operas for Eenadu Television, and his first Telugu film, "Student No. 1" (2001), was a hit.

He has directed thirteen feature films to date, maintaining a 100% success ratio with all films being successful. His films are typically characterized by epic grandeur, unbridled heroism, and larger-than-life characters, often drawing themes and inspiration from ancient Indian epics while integrating emotions from those epics with visual grandeur.

He is best known for directing action, fantasy, and epic films, including mega blockbusters such as "Magadheera" (2009), "Eega" (2012), and the "Baahubali" series. "Baahubali: The Beginning" (2015) became the highest-grossing Telugu film of all time, the first South Indian film to gross over ₹650 crores worldwide, and the first non-Hindi film to gross over ₹100 crores in its dubbed Hindi version.

Through the "Baahubali" series, which includes "Baahubali: The Beginning" and "Baahubali: The Conclusion," he pioneered the Pan-Indian films movement that transformed Indian cinema. His 2022 historical epic "RRR" also became a mega blockbuster. Three of his movies were the most expensive Indian movies ever at the time of each film's launch.

S. S. Rajamouli has received numerous awards on national and international levels, including five Nandi Awards, four Filmfare Awards South, two Saturn Awards, and three National Film Awards. In 2016, he was honored with the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian honor, for his contributions to the field of art. He is currently the highest-paid Indian filmmaker and the highest-grossing Indian director of all time.

In his personal life, he married costume designer Rama Rajamouli in 2001, and the couple has two children named S. S. Karthikeya and S. S. Mayookha. Both his father and brother work in the cinema sector, reflecting the family's deep involvement in Tollywood.
