Shobhna Samarth - Wikiunfold

Shobhna Samarth, born Saroj Shilotri on November 17, 1916, in Bombay, British India, was a pioneering Indian actress, director, and producer who began her career in the early days of Hindi talkie films.

She hailed from a well-to-do family; her father, Prabhakar Shilotri, was a prominent banker who founded the Shilotri Bank in Bombay, and her mother, Rattan Bai, was herself an actress in Marathi cinema. She studied at Cathedral School and later Baldwin Girls High School in Bangalore, following her family's relocation due to financial setbacks.

Shobhna Samarth made her film debut in 1935 with "Nigahen Nafrat," a bilingual Urdu-Marathi film, which though not commercially successful, earned her critical acclaim. She acted in a number of films through the 1930s and 1940s, working with various studios and starring in important films such as "Kokila" (1937), "Do Diwane" (1936), and "Pati Patni" (1939).
