Rekha (born Bhanurekha Ganesan on October 10, 1954) is a legendary Indian actress widely regarded as one of the finest performers in Indian cinema.
Born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, she is the daughter of prominent Tamil actor Gemini Ganesan and Telugu actress Pushpavalli. She grew up in a Hindu family with seven sisters and one brother.
Rekha began her acting career at the remarkably young age of 13 with the Telugu film Rangula Ratnam in 1966. Her cinematic debut actually occurred slightly earlier with the Kannada film Operation Jackpot Nalli C.I.D 999, followed by the Telugu film Amma Kosam.

Initially, she had aspired to become an air hostess but was deemed too young, and she also briefly considered becoming a nun before her family's financial struggles necessitated her working in films. She learned Hindi for her Bollywood debut in Sawan Bhadon.
