Priti Sapru

Priti Sapru (also spelled Preeti Sapru) is an Indian actress known for her extensive work in Punjabi and Hindi cinema. She was born on December 24, 1957, in Bombay, Maharashtra, India, into a Kashmiri family.

Priti Sapru comes from a distinguished acting family. Her father is veteran actor D.K. Sapru, and her mother is actress Hemvathi Sapru. Her brother Tej Sapru is also a character actor, while her sister Reema Rakesh Nath works as a script writer.

The Sapru family previously lived in a large bungalow at Juhu Tara, near Juhu Beach in Bombay.

She studied at St. Joseph's High School in Juhu, Bombay, up until the 9th standard. She began her acting career at the age of 13, making her debut with the film "Habari" in 1979. She later appeared in notable Hindi films including "Laawaris" (1981) and "Avtaar" (1983).

Throughout her career, she has acted in both lead and supporting roles in a fairly large number of Punjabi language movies. She featured in several Punjabi hits including "Nimmo," "Yaari Jat Di," and "Qurbani Jatt Di," working alongside heroes like Veerendra, Gurdas Maan, and Raj Babbar.

She occasionally takes up supporting actress roles in Hindi movies as well. One of her notable Hindi film appearances was in "Sardari" (1997).

Beyond acting, she has diversified her work in the film industry. She directed some Punjabi movies, including "Qurbani Jatt Di". She was a pioneer of album activity through "Bhangra Gidda" in 1990 and wrote the film "Zameen Asmaan". She also launched the first Punjabi channel, Alpha, which was part of Zee at that time.

Priti Sapru is married to Upvan Sudarshan Ahluwalia, a practicing architect who is also a film producer and director. The couple married on April 27, 2008. They have twin daughters, Riya Walia and Rene Walia, who were born in May 2009.
