Ravichandran Veeraswamy

Veeraswamy Ravichandran, known professionally as Ravichandran and widely called V. Ravichandran or “Crazy Star,” is an Indian actor and filmmaker who has worked predominantly in Kannada cinema.

He is also recognized as “The Show Man of Kannada cinema” because of his multi-role contributions as an actor, director, producer, music director, lyricist, and editor.

Ravichandran was born on 30 May 1961 in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. He is the son of film producer N. Veeraswamy and has continued his family’s film legacy through Sri Eswari Productions.

He began his film career as a child artist in Kula Gowrava (1971) and later appeared in films such as Khadeema Kallaru (1982) and Chakravyuha (1983). His directorial debut, Premaloka (1987), became a major success and established him as a prominent figure in Kannada cinema.

He went on to star in several successful films, including Ranadheera, Yuddha Kanda, Ramachaari, Putnanja, Sipayi, Yaare Neenu Cheluve, Preethsod Thappa, Kanasugara, Ekangi, Malla, and Drishya.

Ravichandran is known for a distinctive and technically ambitious filmmaking style, often marked by lavish production values, innovative camera angles, close-ups, fast cuts, and strong emphasis on music and visuals. His work has often been described as non-conformist and influential within the Kannada film industry.

He received major recognition for Ekangi, for which he won Karnataka State Film Awards for Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Music Director. He has also received lifetime achievement honors and state-level awards, including the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award and the Puttanna Kanagal Award.
