Ravi Babu is an Indian actor, director, writer, and producer who works primarily in the Telugu film industry (Tollywood).
He was born in Poranki, near Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, to veteran Telugu film character actor Thammareddy Chalapathi Rao, who acted in over 1,200 films across 48 years, and his wife Indumaty Chowdrani.

Ravi Babu received his education in Chennai, Pune, and the United States. He earned a Master's in Business Administration from the prestigious Symbiosis Institute of Business Management in Pune.
After graduation, he apprenticed for a year with noted advertisement and filmmaker Rajiv Menon before moving to the United States. In the U.S., he enrolled at the Film and Television Workshops in Rockport, Maine but quit shortly because he found the curriculum too rudimentary, and later attended the Sony Institute in San Jose, California for a course in digital online editing.
He worked at the now-defunct India Broadcasting Network in New York and TV Asia, initially as a cameraman and editor and later as a program producer and director.
Returning to India, Ravi Babu directed numerous commercials for a Chennai-based film production company, Autumnart, before establishing his own production house, Flying Frogs, in 1999. Flying Frogs originally created television ads but eventually produced silver-screen films. He has produced and directed numerous commercials and films since then.
As a director, Ravi Babu made his directorial debut with the film "Allari" in 2002. His other notable directorial works include "Soggadu" (2005), "Party" (2006), "Nachavule" (2008), "Amavarathi" (2009), "Nuvvila" (2011), "Dohchay" (2015), "Avunu 2" (2015), "Thanu Nenu" (2015), "Adhugo" (2018), and "Rama Chakkani Seetha" (2019).
He is particularly known for the horror films "Avunu," "Nachavule," and "Crrush". Over his career, he has directed approximately 12 to 16 films and written all of them.
As an actor, Ravi Babu made his debut with the film "Lovestory 1999" in 1998. He has starred in over 75 films in varied roles as a villain, comedian, and comedic villain. Some of his notable acting films include "Murari" (2001), "Ammailu Abbailu" (2003), "Pallakilo Pellikuthuru" (2004), "Party" (2006), and "Swagatam" (2008). He has also appeared in films in Tamil and Kannada languages.
Ravi Babu has received recognition for his work in the industry. He was nominated for Best Director at the 2009 Filmfare Awards and won Best Villain at the 2012 National Film Awards.
