Jaswinder Bhalla, born on May 4, 1960, in Ludhiana, Punjab, India, is a renowned Indian actor and comedian who has left an indelible mark on Punjabi cinema. His father, Master Bahadur Singh Bhalla, was a primary school teacher in the village of Barmalipur. Bhalla received his basic education from Senior Secondary School Doraha.

He pursued his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Punjab Agricultural University and earned his Ph.D. from Chaudhary Charan Singh Post Graduate College, Meerut. He began his career as an Assistant Professor at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and retired from active service on May 31, 2020, as a Professor and Head of the Department of Extension Education.

Jaswinder Bhalla's journey into comedy began in 1988 with the audio cassette 'Chhankata 88', which he created with his co-performer and classmate from PAU, Bal Mukund Sharma. The word 'chhankata' originated from the college-level annual show performed by Bhalla and Sharma in PAU.

They were noticed by Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar, while performing in Professor Mohan Singh Mela (a cultural festival) on the personal backing of Punjabi author Jagdev Singh Jassowal. Since then, Bhalla has released over 27 audio and video albums of the Chhankata series.

Jaswinder Bhalla is best known for his comedy series 'Chhankata' and his comedy roles in various Punjabi films. He is famous for always using taglines in his movies, bringing a comic touch to them. He also performs in stage acts and has done tours of Canada and Australia for his stage show 'Naughty Baba in Town'.

He has worked in numerous Punjabi movies like 'Mahaul Theek Hai', 'Jija Ji', 'Jihne Mera Dil Luteya', 'Power cut', 'Kabaddi Once Again', 'Apan Phir Milange', 'Mel Kara De Rabba', 'Carry On Jatta', 'Jatt and Juliet', 'Jatt Airways'.

Jaswinder Bhalla is married to Parmdeep Bhalla, a Fine Arts teacher. They have two children, a son named Pukhraj Bhalla, who is studying B.tech in Audio Visuals from Punjabi University, Patiala, and a daughter named Ashpreet Kaur, who is married and resides in Norway.

Jaswinder Bhalla has been recognized for his contribution to Punjabi cinema comedy and has received the Best Punjabi Comedian Award.
