Honey Singh

Honey Singh (born Hirdesh Singh on March 15, 1983) is an Indian rapper, singer, music producer, and film actor widely known by his stage name Yo Yo Honey Singh.

He was born in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India, into a traditional Sikh family. His mother, Bhupinder Kaur, is from Hoshiarpur, Punjab, and his father, Sardar Sarabjit Singh, is a refugee from Punjab, Pakistan. His family later moved to Delhi, where he spent most of his formative years.

Honey Singh pursued his education in music at the Trinity School of Music in London, United Kingdom, where he specialized in music production.

He completed his school education in commerce in Hoshiarpur in 2000. This international exposure played a significant role in shaping his musical style, allowing him to blend Indian and Western influences seamlessly. He also knows how to play the tabla. He began his career as a session and recording artist in 2005, working on Punjabi albums, before becoming a Bhangra music producer.

He gained mainstream recognition with his debut album "Peshi" in 2006, and his first breakthrough hit "Glassi" (2008) made him a household name in the Punjabi music scene. In 2006, one of his singles reached number one on the BBC world charts. His album "International Villager" became the highest-grossing Punjabi album of all time. He has released more than 20 albums throughout his career.

Honey Singh prefers to sing in Hindi and his native language Punjabi rather than English. He made his acting debut with Baljit Singh Deo's Punjabi film "Mirza – The Untold Story" (2012), performing the role of Deesha.

His Bollywood breakthrough came with the track "Shakal Pe Mat Ja" featuring Gagan Sidhu, and he later became the highest-paid musician in Bollywood. In 2013, his song "Lungi Dance" from the film "Chennai Express" became a massive hit and was featured in YouTube's Global Top 10 videos.

For the track "Mujhe Neet Pila De Sajna" in the film "Mastaan," he was paid Rs 70 lakh (some sources cite Rs 7 million), making him the most expensive singer in Bollywood history at that time.

In 2015, Honey Singh took a break from the music industry due to health issues, including bipolar disorder and alcohol dependency. During this hiatus, he faced significant challenges but emerged stronger with a renewed focus on his music. In 2018, he made a triumphant comeback with the hit song "Makhna," which signaled his return to the limelight with tropical vibes. He has also performed at many college festivals.

Honey Singh comes from a traditional Sikh family with parents Sarabjit Singh and Bhupinder Kaur, who have been a source of strength throughout his journey. He has a sister named Snaha Singh.

In 2011, he married his long-time partner Shalini Talwar Singh in a private ceremony. He introduced Shalini to audiences for the first time on the television show "India's Raw Star". Their relationship faced turbulence, leading to a public separation in 2021.

Apart from music, Honey Singh has a passion for luxury cars and fashion. He is a fitness enthusiast who maintains a two-hour workout every day. He picked up the slang "Yo Yo" from his African-American friends, which translates to "aapka apna" (your own), giving him the unique identity "aapka apna Honey".
