Mika Singh

Mika Singh (born Amrik Singh on June 10, 1977) is a prominent Indian pop singer, rapper, composer, music director, and actor, widely celebrated for his energetic Punjabi-language songs and prolific contributions to Bollywood music.

He was born in Durgapur, West Bengal, into a musical family; his father, Ajmer Singh Chandan, is a classical musician, and his mother, Balbir Kaur, is a scholar of folk music. He is the youngest of six Mehndi brothers, and his older brother is the renowned Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi.

From an early age, he demonstrated musical talent, learning to play the tabla at eight years old, the harmonium at twelve, and the guitar at fourteen. Although he initially aspired to become a music director and started as a kirtan singer, his career evolved into bhangra and pop music.

He released his debut album, Sawan Mein Lag Gayee Aag, in 1998 at the age of 21, which achieved instant success and became his breakthrough track. Following this success, he released several hit albums, including Something Something, Gabru, Dunali, and Ishq Brandy.

Mika Singh has sung numerous popular Bollywood songs, including "Mauja Hi Mauja" from Jab We Met (2007), "Ibn-e-Batuta" from Dedh Ishqiya (2010), and "Dhinka Chika" from Ready (2011). He is notable for being the first singer to lend his voice to five different actors in a single song.

His musical repertoire also includes songs for Bengali films such as Paglu and Khokababu. In addition to his singing career, he composed the patriotic song "Vande Mataram" for the Indian Army.

Beyond music, Mika Singh ventured into acting with his film debut in the comedy Loot in 2011. He later starred in the musical comedy Balwinder Singh... Famous Ho Gaya (2014) and contributed to the music of Housefull 3 (2016). He has also served as a team captain, judge, and mentor on STAR Plus's music competition Music Ka Maha Muqqabla for his team, Mika's Blasters.

His career has been marked by both commercial success and media controversies, including a past kissing controversy with Rakhi Sawant and a ban from Punjab University. He runs an NGO called "Divine Touch" and is known for his fondness for animals, owning 18 dogs, 2 camels, and 2 horses. A non-vegetarian, he follows a Gemini zodiac sign and maintains a close friendship with singer Honey Singh while admiring Badshah's rapping style.
