Kunal Kishore Kapoor, professionally known as Kunal Kapoor, is an Indian actor who works predominantly in Hindi cinema. He was born on October 18, 1977, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, in a Punjabi family originally from Amritsar, Punjab.
His father, Kishore Kapoor, was in the construction business, and his mother, Kanan, is a singer and homemaker. He is the youngest of three children, having two sisters named Geeta and Reshma. His father's family hails from Amritsar, while his mother's family is from Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

He began his career in the theater industry, where he was part of Naseeruddin Shah's theater group Motley. He trained under renowned actor Barry John and started his film career as an assistant director on the Amitabh Bachchan starrer "Aks" (2001).
His acting debut came with the critically acclaimed film "Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities" (2004), directed by MF Hussain. His second film was the commercially successful "Rang De Basanti" (2006), where he played the role of Aslam, which became his career breakthrough.
Following his breakthrough, he appeared in several films including "Aaja Nachle" and "Laaga Chunari Mein Daag" (2007), "Bachna Ae Haseeno" and "Welcome to Sajjanpur" (2008), "Don 2" (2011), "Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana" (2012), for which he was also a co-writer, "Dear Zindagi" and "Veeram" (2016), and "Gold" (2018).
He has amassed over 30 different on-screen acting roles throughout his ongoing career. After a break, he earned critical acclaim for his portrayal of Babur in the television series "The Empire" (2021).
He is the co-founder of Ketto, Asia's largest crowdfunding platform, which has raised over 150 million dollars for social and medical causes. He is also a prolific angel investor who has invested in several future tech companies.
Alongside his acting and business ventures, he is a trained pilot and races rally and Formula 3 cars. He has written columns for HT City, a supplement of Hindustan Times.
Kunal Kapoor married Naina Bachchan, the niece of actor Amitabh Bachchan, in 2015, and they have a son together. He has been the face of the charitable organization "Save the Children" alongside Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow.
