Smeep Kang

Smeep Kang (born Harsmeep Singh Gurcharan Singh Kang on 30 January 1973 in Patiala, Punjab, India) is an Indian film director, producer, actor, and writer who works primarily in Punjabi cinema. He graduated from Punjab University with a degree in chemical engineering before transitioning into the film industry.

His career began in acting when he debuted in Jaspal Bhatti's Punjabi comedy "Mahaul Theek Hai" in 1999. He subsequently appeared in films such as "Deh Shiva Bar Mohe" (2002), "Ek Jind Ek Jaan" (2006), and "Kaafila" (2007). Despite gaining recognition as an actor, he discovered his true calling in direction and made his directorial debut in 2007 with "Meri Vahuti Da Viyah," a comedy film he co-directed with Ksshitij Chaudhary and also produced.

The following year, he directed, produced, and starred in "Chak De Phatte" (2008), which was well-received. However, he rose to significant popularity as a director in 2012 with the comedy film "Carry On Jatta," which became a blockbuster and one of the highest-grossing Punjabi feature films of that year.

The movie earned over 30 crore INR and performed well internationally, particularly in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Canada. "Carry On Jatta" went on to become a cult film in Punjabi cinema.

He followed this success with another comedy, "Lucky Di Unlucky Story" (2013), which cast several actors from "Carry On Jatta" and was also highly successful at the box office.

He established himself as a proficient comedy film director with these releases. His subsequent films include "Bhaji in Problem" (2013), which managed good box office business though not as successful as his previous films, "Double Di Trouble" (2014), and the Hindi film "Jhootha Kahin Ka" (2019), which is considered a Hindi sequel of "Carry On Jatta". He also directed "Vaisakhi List" in 2016.
