Boney Kapoor

Boney Kapoor (born Achal Surinder Kapoor on November 11, 1955) is a prominent Indian film producer primarily associated with Hindi cinema, in addition to producing films in Tamil and Telugu industries.

He was born in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India, into a Punjabi Khatri family of filmmakers who migrated from Peshawar, Pakistan. He is the son of late Surinder Kapoor, a renowned Bollywood film producer, and has two brothers, actors Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor.

Boney Kapoor started his career working under legendary filmmakers like Shakti Samanta before establishing himself as an independent producer. He is the founder of the production company Narsimha Enterprises and has been active in the film industry since 1980.

His most famous and celebrated film remains the Shekhar Kapur-directed sci-fi blockbuster "Mr. India" (1987), starring Anil Kapoor and Sridevi, which was the second biggest hit of 1987 and remains a cult classic in India. The film is renowned for several iconic lines and songs, including Sridevi's "Miss Hawa Hawaii" performance and Amrish Puri's famous quote "Mogambo khush hua" (Mogambo is pleased), one of Bollywood's most synonymous quotes.

Among the other notable films produced by him are "Judaai," "No Entry," and "Wanted" (2009). He has also produced recent films including "Thunivu" (2023) and "Maidaan" (2024).

He is celebrated for his ability to translate directors' visions into reality rather than focusing solely on budgetary aspects, and he is known for his boldness in providing opportunities to newcomers - actors, directors, and musicians. He possesses a keen eye for talent throughout his prolific production career.

He was first married to Mona Shourie Kapoor, with whom he has two children: son Arjun Kapoor, who made his debut in the 2012 hit "Ishaqzaade," and daughter Anshula, who graduated from Columbia University and currently works with Google.

He later married Indian actress Sridevi on June 2, 1996, and the couple had two daughters, Janhvi and Khushi. Following Sridevi's death, Kapoor is now a widower. He currently resides in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, and follows Hinduism.
