Harbhajan Singh

Harbhajan Singh Plaha, popularly known as "Bhajji," is a former Indian cricketer and the current Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha representing Punjab under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

He was born on July 3, 1980, in Jalandhar, Punjab, India, into a Sikh family as the only son of Sardar Sardev Singh Plaha, a freedom fighter, and Avtar Kaur.

He is celebrated for his iconic off-spin bowling and vibrant on-field presence during his cricket career, which spanned nearly two decades from 1998 to 2016 with the Indian national cricket team. He accumulated 711 international wickets, including 417 in Test matches, and played domestic cricket for Punjab while representing Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.

His nicknames include "Bhajji" and "Turbanator," reflecting his distinctive style and identity.

In March 2022, he was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the Aam Aadmi Party as one of five candidates from Punjab, winning unopposed to become a Member of Parliament.

He took his oath as a Rajya Sabha MP on July 17, 2022, during the first day of Parliament's Monsoon session, in the presence of Rajya Sabha speaker Venkaiah Naidu. Before joining politics, he consulted batting legend Sachin Tendulkar to ensure he would commit sufficient time to his role as an MP.

Beyond his parliamentary duties, he remains an active cricket commentator and serves as the host of the show "Who's the Boss" while advocating for leadership and high performance.

He is married to Geeta Rani Basra and has two children, one son and one daughter. Singh hails from a humble family in the Kishanpura locality of Jalandhar, where he began his professional cricket training at Burlton Park in 1994. He continues to serve in the Rajya Sabha from March 2022 to the present, representing Punjab in the Indian Parliament.
