Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh is a former Indian international cricketer born on December 12, 1981, in Chandigarh, India.

He is the son of Yograj Singh, a former Indian fast bowler and Punjabi actor. He played as an all-rounder, batting left-handed in the middle order and bowling slow left-arm spin. He is widely considered one of the best limited-overs players in Indian cricket history, known for his powerful batting, great fielding, and crafty left-arm bowling.

He began his cricket career playing domestic Under-19 cricket, including the Under-19 Cooch-Behar Trophy and the 2000 Under-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka.

He was selected for the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, which accelerated his progression. He made his One Day International debut for India against Kenya at Nairobi in 2000 during the ICC Champions Trophy.

His Test debut came in October 2003, and he played ODIs for India from 2000 to 2017. Singh served as the vice-captain of India's ODI team from 2007 to 2008.

He achieved legendary status for several remarkable feats. He was a key player in India's victory at the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 and won the "Man of the Tournament" award in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. In the 2007 World Twenty20 match against England, he hit six sixes in one over off Stuart Broad, a rare and iconic accomplishment.

He also set the record for the fastest fifty in Twenty20 cricket, scoring 50 runs in just 12 balls. During the 2011 World Cup, he became the first player to take five wickets and score a fifty in the same World Cup match.

In 2011, he was diagnosed with lung cancer and underwent chemotherapy treatment in the United States. He returned to India in April 2012 after completing his treatment and made a comeback in a Twenty20 match against New Zealand later that year.

Following his recovery, he received the Arjuna Award in 2012, India's second-highest sports honor, and the Padma Shri in 2014, India's fourth-highest civilian award. He also founded the charity "YouWeCan," which has treated hundreds of cancer patients.

In the Indian Premier League, he was the most expensive player at the time, with Royal Challengers Bangalore buying him for ₹14 crores in 2014 and Delhi Daredevils purchasing him for ₹16 crores in 2015.

He retired from international cricket on June 10, 2019, with his last match for India being in June 2017 against the West Indies.
