Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is a renowned Pakistani singer best known for his mastery of qawwali, a form of Sufi devotional music, as well as his work in Bollywood and Lollywood as a playback singer.

He was born on December 9, 1974, in Faisalabad (formerly Lyallpur), Punjab, Pakistan, into a family with a 600-year tradition of qawwali.

He is the nephew of the legendary Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, who was known as the "Shahanshah-e-Qawwali" (Emperor of Qawwali), and the son of singer Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan.

He is the living torchbearer of his family's musical legacy and was groomed from childhood by his uncle to carry forward Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's divine legacy. He began singing at the age of 7 and by age 15 had become part of his uncle's qawwali group, touring the world and performing solo ghazals to thousands of people.

He performed his first public performance at age 9 at the death anniversary of his grandfather, Fateh Ali Khan.

His Bollywood debut came in 2004 with the film "Paap," which featured his hit song "Mann Ki Lagan" that took the subcontinent by storm with its soulful rendition. He has since become one of the biggest and highest-paid singers in Pakistan, working extensively in both the Bollywood and Lollywood film industries.

He has toured extensively across Pakistan, India, and the UK, performing at venues including Wembley and the Manchester Arena in England to crowds of over 20,000 people.

He is a diverse collaborator who has worked alongside notable artists such as Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder and featured on the soundtrack to Mel Gibson's film "Apocalypto".

He was the first Pakistani singer invited to perform at the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony and has appeared in three seasons of Pakistani Coke Studio. He has won many awards, including the Filmfare award, for his numerous songs.

He is married to Nida Khan, and the couple has a son named Shazmaan Khan. Although Khan is well-versed in many different types of music including ghazals, being a qawwali singer remains closest to his heart.
