Farah Khan

Farah Khan (born Farah Khan Kunder; January 9, 1965, in Bombay, India) is a celebrated Indian film director, choreographer, producer, actress, and dancer who works predominantly in Hindi cinema, commonly known as Bollywood.

She began her career in the film industry as a choreographer with the song "Pehla Nasha" in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992), which brought her substantial recognition among audiences and top directors. Her career gained significant momentum after the success of the iconic song "Chaiyya Chaiyya," which topped music charts across India and became one of her most noteworthy works.

As a choreographer, she has created dance routines for more than hundred songs in over 80 Hindi films, making her one of the most prolific choreographers in Bollywood history. She has received the Filmfare Best Choreography Award six times and the National Film Award for Best Choreography, along with additional Filmfare Awards for her work in films such as Dil Chahta Hai (2002).

Her noteworthy choreography includes songs like "Ek Pal Ka Jeena," "Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan," "Desi Girl," "Sheila Ki Jawani," and "Dhol Bajne Laga". Beyond Indian cinema, she has worked on international projects including Monsoon Wedding (2001), Bombay Dreams (2004), Marigold: An Adventure in India (2007), and the Chinese films Perhaps Love (2005) and Kung Fu Yoga (2017), earning Tony Award and Golden Horse Award nominations for her international work.

She made her directorial debut with Main Hoon Na (2004), a masala film that became a huge success among masses. She became the first female director ever to be nominated for the Filmfare Best Director Award following this film.

She subsequently directed Om Shanti Om (2007), Tees Maar Khan (2010), and Happy New Year (2014), receiving two additional Filmfare Best Director nominations for Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om.

Her acting debut came with Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi (2012), in which she starred opposite Boman Irani. She also worked as a choreographer in the Marathi family drama Hrudayantar (2017) directed by Vikram Phadnis, and contributed to Dhadak (2018) and Mrs. Serial Killer (2020).

Farah Khan is married to Shirish Kunder, a writer, director, producer, and editor in the Indian film industry. On February 11, 2008, she gave birth to triplets - a son and two daughters. Her full name is Farah Khan Kunder (née Khan), and she remains one of the most influential figures in Bollywood choreography and filmmaking.
