Kanika Kapoor

Kanika Kapoor (born August 21, 1978) is an Indian playback singer known for her distinctive voice and chartbuster party songs in Bollywood. She was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, into a Punjabi Khatri family. Her father, Rajeev Kapoor, is a businessman, and her mother, Poonam Kapoor, owns a boutique shop. She has an older brother named Sasha Kapoor, who is also a businessman.

She began her education at Loreto Convent in Lucknow and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Music degree from the prestigious Bhatkhande Music Institute in Lucknow. She started learning classical music at the tender age of 12 and worked briefly with All India Radio during her later teen years before relocating to Mumbai to pursue her music career further.

Her Bollywood singing career began in 2012 with her first music video "Jugni Ji," which became a big hit of the year 2012. The song caught the attention of music composers Meet Bros, who approached her to sing "Baby Doll" from the movie Ragini MMS 2 in 2014.

This song became a nationwide sensation and gave her instant recognition among millions across India. For "Baby Doll," she won the Mirchi Music Award for the best song and the Stardust Award for Best Female Singer. She also received the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer for this song.

Following her breakthrough, she continued delivering hit songs including "Lovely" from Happy New Year (2014) and "Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan" from Roy (2015). She also lent her voice to the film Main aur Charles starring Randeep Hooda.

Kanika Kapoor married businessman Raj Chandok in 1997 and moved to London after the marriage. The couple had three children together before deciding to part ways through divorce, and she returned to India. She is currently a resident of London. She holds the distinction of being the first Indian to perform at Buckingham Palace, where she performed English and Sufi songs in front of Prince Charles and other dignitaries.

Beyond singing, she has started her own fashion label called "Kanika Kapoor: House Of Chikankari". She considers Meet Bros as her brothers and ties Rakhi to them, as they have known each other since childhood through her brother.

In 2015, she was sued by Punjabi musician Dr. Zeus for stealing and selling his music, with accusations that Meet Bros and Kanika lifted his music without permission.
