Tanvi Azmi

Tanvi Azmi (born 9 November, in Mumbai, Maharashtra) is an Indian film and television actress known for her character-driven supporting roles in Hindi, Marathi and regional Indian cinema.

She is the daughter of Marathi actress Usha Kiran and Dr. Manohar Kher, and she is married to cinematographer Baba Azmi, a member of the Azmi film family.

She began her acting career in theatre and television before moving into films; early visibility came through notable television work in serials such as Mirza Ghalib and Lifeline, which showcased her range and earned her wider recognition.

Her film debut came in the mid-1980s, and she attracted critical attention for performances in both mainstream and art-house projects, choosing roles selectively to avoid typecasting.

Across a multi-decade career she has worked with prominent filmmakers and appeared in a variety of languages; memorable film performances include parts in Akele Hum Akele Tum, Darr, Vidheyan (Malayalam), Bajirao Mastani, Thappad, and Tribhanga. Her portrayal of Radhabai in the historical epic Bajirao Mastani brought major acclaim and won her the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress.

She has also been commended for playing strong, often complex women on screen, from mothers and matriarchs to nuanced supporting characters, and she has balanced commercial cinema with more experimental and regional work.
