Tanu Roy

Tanu Roy (born 26 December 1980) is an Indian actress and model who has worked primarily in South Indian cinema, with appearances in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Bengali films.

A Bengali by birth and raised in Kolkata, she began her film career in the early 2000s and is best known for supporting roles and song appearances (often described as item numbers) in several commercially successful Telugu films. She has also appeared in Malayalam films and is noted for a character role in the ensemble Malayalam film Ee Adutha Kalathu.

Tanu Roy was born and brought up in Kolkata, West Bengal. She completed a commerce degree before moving into the film industry. Her background in Kolkata and Bengali heritage informed her early life prior to relocating to work in the South Indian film industries.

Tanu Roy made her acting debut with a small role in the Telugu film Itlu Sravani Subramanyam (2001), directed by Puri Jagannadh. After her debut she took on a series of supporting roles in Telugu cinema, including appearances in films such as Anandam and Manasantha Nuvve.

She gained wider recognition for energetic song appearances and dance numbers in mainstream Telugu films, notably the item numbers in Mass and Hero, which increased her visibility in commercial cinema.

Alongside her Telugu work, she has acted in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Bengali films, taking both supporting roles and special-song appearances.

In Malayalam cinema she is remembered for a role in Ee Adutha Kalathu, a film noted for its ensemble cast and interwoven storylines. She has also done occasional television work and appearances related to the regional film industries.
