Shamita Shetty

Shamita Shetty is an Indian actress and interior designer who was born on February 2, 1979, in Mangaluru (also known as Mangalore), Karnataka, India, into a Tulu-speaking family.

She is the younger sister of Bollywood superstar actress Shilpa Shetty. Her late father, Surendra Shetty, and mother, Sunanda Shetty, were manufacturers of tamper-proof water caps in the pharmaceutical industry.

She completed her schooling at St. Anthony's Girls High School in Mumbai and later graduated with a degree in Commerce from Sydenham College in Mumbai. She also earned a diploma in Fashion Designing from SNDT College in Mumbai. Her initial career path was in fashion design, where she completed an internship with fashion designer Manish Malhotra.

Manish Malhotra recognized her potential for acting and suggested she prepare for an acting career instead. She made her film debut in 2000 with the Yash Raj Films blockbuster "Mohabbatein," directed by Aditya Chopra, where she portrayed the character Ishika. Her performance in this multistarrer hit earned her the 2001 IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Female.

In 2009, she participated in the reality television series "Bigg Boss 3" but left the show after 42 days to attend her sister Shilpa's wedding. By 2011, she decided to follow her passion for interior design more seriously. She further pursued her interest by completing a diploma from Cal Stevenson Martins and the Inchul School of Design in London.

In 2018, she joined forces with Help AG India, an NGO dedicated to the welfare of the elderly. She maintains a consistent tradition of visiting an orphanage on her birthday every year, where she spends time with elderly people and brings them food packages.
