Sagarika Mukherjee

Sagarika Mukherjee (born Sagarika Mukherjee; also known by her nickname Saag and formerly as Sagarika Da Costa) is an Indian singer, songwriter, and actress who works in Bollywood and regional films.

She was born on 4 September 1970 in Guwahati, Assam, India, and belongs to a Bengali family originally from Kolkata. She is the daughter of singer and composer Manas Mukherjee and the granddaughter of lyricist Jahar Mukherjee. Her elder brother is Shantanu Mukherjee, who later became known as the Bollywood singing sensation Shaan.

Sagarika made her debut as a child playback singer in the film "Shayaad" in 1979 at the age of nine, with the song composed by her father. She became a lead playback singer in the Bollywood film "Parinda" in 1989, in the Bengali film "Sesh Sithi" in 1991, and in the Assamese film "Morom Nodir Gabhoru Ghat" in 1999.

She primarily sings in Hindi, Assamese, and Bengali languages, but has also sung songs in Tamil and Telugu. When she was sixteen years old in 1986, her father Manas Mukherjee died, and her mother became a singer to take charge of the entire family.

She attended Jai Hind College in Mumbai but dropped out to pursue her musical career professionally. Along with her singing career, she acted in her first film "Anutap" in 1992 and later appeared in several films including "Biyer Phool," "Rinmukti," "Inteqam," and "Kalishankar".

She released her first album "Maa" in 1998, and in 2001 her second album "Mere Liye" was released along with her brother Shaan and co-artists Suchitra Pillai and Zubeen Garg. She was also a member of a well-known Indian duet with her brother before pursuing a solo career, and the group published albums including "Q-Funk," "Roop Inka Mastana," and "Naujawan".

Sagarika Mukherjee married UK-Portuguese-Italian event manager and businessman Martin Da Costa on 4 February 2002, and they have two sons together. Following her marriage, she took a break from the music industry for a few years. In addition to her careers in singing and acting, she is also a restaurateur.
