Saba Azad

Saba Azad (born Saba Singh Grewal; 1 November 1985) is an Indian actress, theatre director, and musician known for her diverse work in Bollywood films, web series, and the Indian indie music scene.

She was born in Delhi, India, into a theatre family, and is the niece of the renowned theatre great Safdar Hashmi.

Growing up surrounded by stalwarts of Indian theatre, she performed with Safdar Hashmi's theatre group Jana Natya Manch in their stage productions since she was very young.

During her childhood, she traveled to all corners of India with the group, where she worked with many greats of Indian theatre including Habib Tanvir, MK Raina, GP Deshpande, and NK Sharma. Her interest in dance led her to train in Odissi, ballet, jazz, Latin, and contemporary dance forms.

She made her Bollywood debut as one of the leads, Raaga, in the indie film Dil Kabaddi (2008). She is best known for her leading role in the romantic comedy film Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge (2011), where she played the character Preity Sen. She later worked in several web series, including Feels Like Ishq and Rocket Boys, where she portrayed Parvana Irani.

In 2010, she founded her own theatrical group, The Skins, and directed her debut play Lovepuke, which premiered in September 2010 at NCPA's experimental theatre. She also started her own theatre company The Skins in 2010 and directed additional plays.

As a musician, she is one half of the Mumbai-based electro-funk duo Madboy/Mink, where she is also known by the nickname "Mink". She is also a singer and restaurateur, demonstrating her multi-talented career spanning acting, theatre direction, music, and business.

Saba Azad moved to Mumbai from Delhi approximately a year and a half before her early film work, and she has also acted in a two-man play directed by Makarand Deshpande staged at Prithmi theatre.
