Roja Ramani

Roja Ramani is an Indian actress and dubbing artist who predominantly worked in Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Odia films.

She was born on September 16, 1959, in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu, India. She began her career as a child actor, and her debut movie was Bhakta Prahlada (1967), in which she played the title role at the age of five.

For her performance in this film, she received the National Film Award for Best Child Artist, making her one of the youngest recipients of this honor. She became popular during the 1970s and early 1980s, acting in approximately 50 movies as a female lead across multiple South Indian language industries.

In Malayalam films, she was known by the screen name Shobana (also spelled Chemparathy Shobana). Her notable Malayalam works include Chemparathy (1972) and Pani Theeratha Veedu.

The film Chemparathy was later remade in Tamil as Paruva Kaalam (1974), where Ramani repeated her role and Kamal Haasan played the male lead. Among her most appreciated works are Bhakta Prahlada and Chemparathy, with songs like "Chakravarthini Ninakku Vendi" and the devotional song "Saranamayyappa" remaining popular even today.

After an 18-year acting career, she transitioned to dubbing in 1983 at the age of 24. She worked extensively as a dubbing artist in Telugu films, providing voices for various heroines in over 400 Telugu films spanning 20 years. Her last film as an actor was Maga Dheerudu, a Chiranjeevi starrer.

Roja Ramani married Chakrapani (also known as S. Chakrapani) in 1981 at the age of 22. She has two children: a son named Tarun (also referred to as Tarun Kumar) and a daughter named Amulya (also known as Amulya Ramani).

She is the only child to her parents; her father was a journalist named Satyam, who was associated with "Picture Post" and was known as "Cinema Rangam" Satyam.

She is an active member of BlueCross and participates in several social service activities. Her religion is Hindu, and she maintains her residence in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Her hobbies include reading books and traveling.
