Riya Sen

Riya Sen (born Riya Dev Varma; 24 January 1981) is an Indian actress and model who predominantly appears in Hindi, Bengali, English, Telugu, and Tamil films.

She was born in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, into a legendary Bengali film family; her grandmother is the iconic actress Suchitra Sen, her mother Moon Moon Sen was a film actress in both Hindi and Bengali cinema, and her sister Raima Sen is also a Bollywood actress.

Riya Sen began her acting career in 1991 as a child actress at the age of 10 in the film Vishkanya, where she played the role of young Pooja Bedi.

At age 15, she worked in the Tamil film Taj Mahal, directed by renowned director Bharathiraaja. Her breakthrough as a lead actress came with the 2001 Bollywood film Style, directed by N. Chandra, which was a low-budget adult comedy that became her first commercial success.

She has worked in multiple languages including Bengali, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and English films. She is particularly noted for her role in the Malayalam film Ananthabhadram. Beyond films, she has been more active in music videos and advertisements, working with famous brands such as Limca, Colgate, Cadbury, Vatika, and Lakme, where she replaced glamour icon Lisa Ray.

In music videos, she has collaborated with renowned singers including Asha Bhonsle, Jagjit Singh, Falguni Pathak, Sonu Nigam, and Shaan.

She is a trained Kathak dancer and has been widely perceived as a sex symbol in Indian cinema, often criticized for her kissing scenes and appearances in bikini on screen. She has also been active as an activist, appearing in campaigns against sexually transmitted diseases.

Riya Sen married Shivam Tewari on 16 August 2017, and her name has been linked with actors John Abraham and Ashmit Patel in the past.
