Rekha Harris

Rekha Harris (born Sumathi Josephine; 18 May 1970) is an Indian actress who predominantly works in the Tamil and Malayalam film industries, with additional appearances in Telugu and Kannada films. She was born in Eramalloor, Alappuzha, Kerala, India, and began her acting career at the age of 16.

She made her Tamil film debut in 1986 with Bharathiraja’s Kadalora Kavithaigal, in which she portrayed the character Jennifer. Her notable early Tamil films include Punnagai Mannan (1986), Enga Ooru Pattukaran (1987), En Bommukutty Ammavukku (1988), Puriyaadha Pudhir (1990), and Gunaa (1991).

In Malayalam cinema, she debuted in 1989 with Ramji Rao Speaking and quickly gained recognition for successful films such as Aey Auto (1990) and the comedy classic In Harihar Nagar (1990). She won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Malayalam for her performance in Dasharatham (1989).

Over her career spanning several decades, she has appeared in more than 60 films across four South Indian languages. After initially playing heroine roles, she transitioned into character roles, frequently portraying sister-in-law and mother figures.

Her significant later works include Malayalam films such as Lal Salam (1990), Janam (1993), Saamoohyapadom (1996), Jayam (2006), and Kinar (2018), as well as Tamil films like Roja Kootam (2002), Kovil (2004), Thambi Arjuna (2010), Pyaar Prema Kaadhal (2018), and Dharmaprabhu (2019). She also appeared in the modern ensemble hit Bangalore Days (2014).

Beyond films, she has acted in numerous television serials, including Neelakkurinju Veendum Pookkunnu, Kana Kaanum Kaalangal, Kolangal (2003), Alaigal (2001), and Ninne Pelladatha. In 2020, she ventured into reality television as a contestant in Bigg Boss Tamil Season 4.

In her personal life, Rekha Harris married Harris Kottadath (also known as George Harris), a Malayali seafood exporter, in 1996. The couple has a daughter named Anusha, who was born in 1998. She continues to reside in her birthplace of Eramalloor, Alappuzha, Kerala.
