Reema Lagoo (21 June 1958 – 18 May 2017) was an acclaimed Indian theatre and screen actress renowned for her versatile work in Hindi and Marathi cinema, television, and stage. Born Nayan Bhadbhade in Mumbai, she was the daughter of Pune-based Marathi theatre actress Mandakini Bhadbhade, who profoundly influenced her artistic journey.
She began her acting career in Marathi theatre shortly after completing high school at Huzurpaga HHCP High School in Pune, where her acting prowess was recognized during her schooling years.

Her professional acting journey started on the Marathi stage in the late 1970s, and she later became a household name for playing motherly roles in Hindi films and television during the 1990s and early 2000s.
She met Vivek Lagoo, her colleague at Bank of India and a stage actor, in 1976 and married him in 1978, after which she adopted the name Rima Lagoo, later known as Reema Lagoo. She worked at Bank of India for ten years before fully pursuing her acting career.
Her breakthrough in Hindi cinema came with the 1988 film Maine Pyar Kiya, where she played Juhi Chawla's mother, followed by iconic maternal roles in Maa (1989), Salimn (1991), and Hum Saath-Saath Hain (1999), all of which became superhits at the box office. On television, she gained widespread attention for her roles in the classic 1990s sitcoms Shriman Shrimati and Tu Tu Main Main, where her portrayal of motherly figures became legendary.
In Marathi cinema, she won the Maharashtra State Film Award for Best Actress in 2003 for her stellar performance in Resham Gaath (2002). She also received the prestigious V. Shantaram Award from the Government of Maharashtra in recognition of her contributions to Marathi cinema. Her four-decade artistic journey included memorable characters in both Hindi and Marathi productions, showcasing her versatility beyond maternal roles.
Reema Lagoo passed away on 18 May 2017 at the age of 58 due to a cardiac arrest.
