Divya Spandana

Divya Spandana (born 29 November 1982), professionally known as Ramya, is an Indian film actress and politician who served as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha from the Mandya constituency in Karnataka.

She works predominantly in Kannada cinema but has also appeared in Tamil and Telugu films, and she is the recipient of two South Filmfare Awards, an Udaya Award, and a Karnataka State Film Award.

She was born in Bangalore (now Bengaluru), Karnataka, and grew up in Ooty and Chennai, where she completed her schooling. She later pursued higher education at St. Joseph's College of Commerce in Bangalore, studying Bachelor of Commerce for a year. Her parents are R. T. Narayan, an industrialist and politician, and Ranjitha Narayan.

She entered the film industry in 2003, making her acting debut opposite Kannada actor Puneet Rajkumar in the film Abhi. Her breakthrough came with the 2005 film Amrithadhare, which established her as a leading actress in Kannada cinema.

Over her acting career spanning from 2003 to 2016, she appeared in over 45 movies across Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu languages. Some of her popular films include Arasu, Mussanjemaatu, Just Maath Maathalli, and the Tamil film Polladhavan (also known as Katra). In 2004, she claimed to be the granddaughter of politician and former Chief Minister of Karnataka S. M. Krishna.

She transitioned into politics in 2012 by joining the youth wing of the Indian National Congress. In 2013, she contested the Mandya by-election and won on her very first attempt, becoming a Member of Parliament.

However, she narrowly lost her seat in the 2014 general election. In May 2017, she was appointed as the head of Congress's social media and digital communications team, contributing significantly to the party's online presence and helping revive its social media wing. In August 2016, she was charged with sedition after making a controversial statement that "Pakistan is not hell."
