Ranjitha

Ranjitha (born Sri Valli on 4 June 1975 in Bangalore) is a former Indian actress known for her work in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada films. She began her career in cinema as a former volleyball player before transitioning to acting.

She made her film debut in 1991 in Telugu cinema under the screen name Madhu Bala, appearing in the film "Kadapa Reddemma" (also spelled "Kadapa Reddemma" or "Reddemma").

Her second Telugu film that year was "Prema Panjaram," though both initial ventures did not achieve commercial success. Her career took a significant turn when legendary director Bharathiraja cast her in the Tamil film "Nadodi Thendral" (also known as "Nadodi Mannan"), which provided her a strong platform in the industry.

She made her official Tamil film debut in the 1992 Bharathiraja film "Nadodi Thendral" starring Karthik.

During her active years as a lead actress in Tamil cinema, she worked with top stars including Arjun in "Jaihind" and "Karna," Napoleon in "Tamizhatchi," Mammootty in "Makkalatchi," Vijayakanth in "Periya Marudhu," Nana Patekar in "Bommalattam," and Prabhu in "Chinna Vaathiyar".

She is notably known for her roles in films such as "Sindoora Rekha" (1995), "Villu" (2009), and "Raavanan" (2010). In the late 1990s, she transitioned to playing mother and sister roles in films, including portraying Vijay's mother in "Villu".

In her personal life, Ranjitha married Indian Army Major Rakesh Menon in 2000 and retired from acting after their wedding. The marriage ended in divorce in 2002. She made a comeback to the entertainment industry in 2001–2003, taking on supporting roles in films and lead roles in television shows until 2010. Among her famous television serials are "Roja" and "Thekkathi Ponnu".

In 2013, she chose to pursue sannyasa (religious renunciation) under Swami Nithyananda. She is a hardcore devotee of Swami Nithyananda and spends most of her time at his ashram.
