Rakshita, born Shweta on March 31, 1984, in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, is an Indian television personality, film producer, and former actress known primarily for her work in Kannada films, with additional roles in Telugu and Tamil cinema.
Her father, B.C. Gowrishankar, was a cinematographer, and her mother, Mamatha Rao, was an actress; both worked in Kannada films.
She began her acting career with the Kannada movie Appu (2002), starring alongside Puneeth Rajkumar. She subsequently acted in the Telugu remake of the same film, titled Idiot, and in the Tamil remake titled Dum, where she worked alongside Silambarasan.

Her breakthrough as a top Kannada heroine came with the big-hit film Kalasipalya (2004). Throughout her acting career, she appeared in approximately 30 films across Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu languages.
Beyond acting, Rakshita expanded her work in entertainment as a television host, dubbing artist, and judge on various shows. She also became a film producer. In terms of education, she pursued a Bachelor's degree in Computer Applications (BCA) from Sri Bhag Von Mahavir Jane College in Bangalore but discontinued during her first year; she later enrolled in a correspondence course for a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2001.
She entered politics after her entertainment career. She served as the President of the women's wing of the BSR Congress until April 2013, when she quit the party citing differences over contesting elections from a constituency of her choice in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly election. In March 2014, she again quit the Congress party after the party ignored her plea for a ticket to contest from Mandya in the 2014 general election, and she subsequently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
In her personal life, Rakshita is married to Prem, and they have one child together. Her hobbies include reading books, listening to music, and traveling; her favorite authors are Agatha Christie and Sydney Sheldon. She is Hindu by religion and holds Indian nationality.
