Rajshri Deshpande is an Indian actress and activist born on 14 October 1982 in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, into a working-class family of farmers.
She is the youngest of three siblings. She earned an undergraduate degree in law from Symbiosis Law School and a postgraduate degree in advertising from Symbiosis International University. She also holds a certification in filmmaking from Whistling Woods International in Mumbai.
Initially entering the advertising industry to support herself, she quickly discovered that acting was her true calling. Her career in film and television began with small roles in movies such as Talaash (2012) and Kuch Toh Log Kahenge (2011).

She gained global attention for her portrayal of Laxmi in Pan Nalin's drama film Angry Indian Goddesses (2015), which brought her international recognition. Following this, she played the titular lead role of Durga in Sanal Kumar Sasidharan's Sexy Durga (2017), a film that won the Hivos Tiger Award at the Rotterdam Film Festival.
She received critical acclaim for her performance as Subhadra, the wife of gangster Ganesh Gaitonde (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui), in the Netflix series Sacred Games. She also portrayed the renowned poet Ismat Chughtai in Nandita Das's film Manto (2018) and played Manju in BBC One's McMafia.
Her other notable film appearances include Choked (2020), Nirvana Inn, and the Malayalam movie Haram (2015). In 2023, Deshpande won the Best Actress in a Drama Series award at the Filmfare OTT Awards for her work in the Netflix series Trial by Fire. She has also appeared in The Fame Game on Netflix.
Beyond her acting career, she is a dedicated activist and social worker passionate about making villages self-reliant and addressing the woes of rural communities. After working with an international NGO in a Nepalese village following the 2014 Nepal earthquake, she founded her own NGO, Nabhangan Foundation, in 2018.
Through this organization, her team has built three eco-sensitive schools and worked on water sanitation, women's community centers, and healthcare initiatives for sustainable village development.
