Rajshree (born Rajashree Shantaram; 8 October 1944) is an Indian actress known for her work in Hindi cinema during the late 1950s, 1960s, and early 1970s.
She is best remembered for her classic beauty, dancing abilities, and compelling performances in the films Janwar (1965) and Brahmachari (1968), both starring opposite Shammi Kapoor.
Rajshree was born in Bombay (now Mumbai), British India, to acclaimed filmmaker V. Shantaram and actress Jayshree, his second wife. She is of Marathi descent. Her father directed numerous celebrated films, including Navrang, Do Akhein Barah Haath, Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje, and Amar Bhoopali. Her mother, Jayshree, passed away on October 19, 2004, and her father died in October 1990. Her brother, Kiran Shantaram, was the former Sheriff of Bombay, Maharashtra.

Rajshree began her career as a child artist, appearing in small roles in films such as Stree (1961), Navrang, Grihasthi, and Ghar Basake Dekho (1963). She was launched as a leading actress by her father in the 1964 film Geet Gaaya Pattharon Ne, opposite Jeetendra, which marked Jeetendra's debut as well.
The film was a huge box-office hit, earned her widespread praise, and established her identity in Bollywood. The song "Tere Khayalon Mein Hum," sung by Asha Bhosle and picturized on her, was particularly noted.
During her nearly two-decade-long career (1954–1973), she acted in numerous successful films including Suhaag Raat, Sagaai, Geet Gaaya Pattharon Ne, Shehnai, Ji Chahta Hai, Do Dil, Gunahon Ka Devta, Dil Ne Pukara, Naina, and Mohabbat Zindagi Hai. She worked with almost all leading actors of her time, including Shammi Kapoor, Raj Kapoor (Around the World, 1967), Jeetendra, Biswajeet, Shashi Kapoor, Sanjay Khan, Dharmendra, and Joy Mukherjee.
Her role in Janwar as Sapna and as Sheetal Chaudhary in Brahmachari remain her most iconic performances.
While shooting Around the World in America with Raj Kapoor, Rajshree met American student Greg Chapman. They married three years later on November 28, 1967, in a grand five-day Indian ceremony attended by approximately 15,000 guests. Greg Chapman later changed his name to Gautham. Rajshree subsequently moved permanently to Los Angeles, America, leaving her film career behind.
The couple has one daughter, Chandrika, and they live in Los Angeles, where they run a successful custom clothing business. Rajshree has been living in America for over 30 years. She remains well-known across India and worldwide for her classic beauty, dancing, and acting capabilities.
