Pramila Joshai

Pramila Joshai is an Indian actress who primarily works in the Kannada film industry, with her career also spanning Tamil cinema. She was born on March 31, 1955, and is a Catholic by religion.

Her mother tongue is Tamil, and she was raised primarily by her grandmother, Yadugiri Devi.

She joined the film industry in the late 1970s, with her early credited work being the Kannada movie "Thayigintha Devarilla" in 1977.

Her debut Tamil film was "Thappu Thalangal" in 1979. For her early films, she used the screen name Parimalam. She has appeared in around 120 movies, mostly playing supporting roles in Kannada cinema.

Her memorable performance in the 1981 film "Sangeetha" earned her the Best Supporting Actress award at the Karnataka State Film Awards. Joshai is best known for her titular role of Vaidehi in the cult classic Tamil film "Vaidehi Kathirunthal" (1984), in which she was credited as Parimalam; the film became a blockbuster hit and has attained cult status over the years. In this role, she played Vaidehi, who commits suicide due to a misunderstanding, and the performance left an impression in viewers' hearts.

She is also a film producer. She is married to Sundar Raj, who is an Indian film actor in the Kannada film industry. The couple has a daughter named Meghana Raj, who is also a South Indian actor predominantly associated with Kannada cinema and has worked in Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil films. Her son-in-law is Chiranjeevi Sarja, another South Indian actor.

Some of her notable films as an actor include "Saheba" (2017), "Thayi" (2008), and "Apthamitra" (2004). She is best known for her works in both Kannada and Tamil movies throughout her decades-long career.
