Prachi Desai is an Indian actress who works in Hindi films and television, born on 12 September 1988 in Surat, Gujarat, India. She is best known for her role as Bani Walia in the Hindi television drama Kasamh Se (2006–2008), which aired on Zee TV and catapulted her into stardom.
Playing the innocent yet strong-willed Bani opposite Ram Kapoor marked her television debut at just 17 years old and earned her several accolades, including an Indian Telly Award for Best Actress. She left Kasamh Se on 15 April 2008 after episode 562, when her character was burnt and drowned, and was replaced by Gurdeep Kohli.
The show itself ended on 12 March 2009 after a significant success on Zee TV. After her television success, she ventured into Bollywood and made her film debut in Abhishek Kapoor's rock musical drama Rock On!! (2008), where she essayed the role of Farhan Akhtar's wife.

Her performance in Rock On!! garnered critical acclaim and led to a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.
Over the years, she starred in various notable films that showcased her versatility. Her performance as a gangster's lover in Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010) won her an IIFA Award for Best Supporting Actress.
She appeared in Life Partner (2009), Bol Bachchan (2012), which remains one of her biggest commercial hits, and the romantic comedy I, Me Aur Main (2013). Other notable projects include Teri Meri Kahaani (2012), Policegiri (2013), Ek Villain (2014) with a special appearance in the "Awari" song, and the biographical drama Azhar (2016). She also starred in Rock On 2 (2016) as Sakshi Shroff.
After reaching great heights in Bollywood by 2017, she took a hiatus from acting to explore other avenues. She returned to the screen with Silence... Can You Hear It? (2021), a thriller that reintroduced audiences to her dynamic range as an actress.
More recently, she starred in the Telugu web series Dhootha (2023), an Amazon Prime Video original suspense-thriller alongside Naga Chaitanya, which premiered on 1 December 2023 and was released in Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi. She also appeared in Forensic (2022) as Dr. Ranjana and Silence 2: The Night Owl Bar Shootout (2024) as Inspector Sanjana Bhatia.
Prachi Desai was born in Surat, Gujarat, to Nirajan Desai, a professor, and Amita Desai, a homemaker. She has one sister named Esha Desai. She studied at St Joseph Convent in Panchgani and completed her schooling until ninth grade in Surat before going to Pune for higher studies.
At age 17, she left her studies to start her career with Kasamh Se after her pictures were sent to Balaji Telefilms, who called her for an audition.
Beyond acting, she has become synonymous with beauty brands and serves as Neutrogena's brand ambassador across India. She is also the endorser and spokesperson for Goa Tourism products in India.
