He arrived in Bombay (now Mumbai) in 1978, supposedly to meet Bollywood actress Parveen Babi. However, he stumbled upon his film career when he got a part in Sanjay Khan's Abdullah (1980), where he played a villain. This became his breakthrough role, and he decided to stay in India permanently.

Christo was typically typecast as a henchman, villain's sidekick, or Army General, and was recognized for his physique and bald-headed appearance.
In 2000, he shifted from Mumbai to Bangalore and became a yoga instructor, retiring from Bollywood acting after 2003. He expressed his deep connection to India, stating in one of his last interviews that he wanted to die in India.
Robert John Christo, lovingly called "Bob ji" by fans, died on March 20, 2011, in Bangalore at the age of 72. He passed away due to rupture of the left ventricle valve at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research in Bangalore.
