Kanaka

Kanaka Mahalakshmi Devadoss, known mononymously as Kanaka, is an Indian former actress who appeared in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam language films.

She was born on 14 July 1973 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Her birth name is Lakshmipriya, and she is the daughter of Tamil actress Devika. Kanaka is also the great-granddaughter of Raghupathi Venkaiah Naidu, the producer of Telugu cinema's first sound film.

She began her acting career as a heroine in the Tamil film Karakattakkaran (1989), which was directed by Gangai Amaran and became a blockbuster that ran in theaters for over a year.

She also played the main female lead in superhit Malayalam films such as Godfather (1991), Vietnam Colony (1992), and Golanthara Vartha (1993). Her Malayalam film career concluded with Ee Mazha Then Mazha (2000).

She worked alongside major stars including Mukesh, Mammotty, and Mohanlal in Telugu and Malayalam films. Her notable Telugu and Malayalam works include Pingami (1994), Kusruthikaatu (1995), and Bhoopathi (1997).

She was known for her captivating screen presence and expressive performances, establishing herself as a sought-after leading lady in the 1980s and 1990s.

Beyond acting, Kanaka was also a dancer, Veena player, and videophotographer. Her last Tamil film was Sillunu Oru Kaadhal (2006). Kanaka is currently married, and she has transitioned away from active filmmaking after her decade-long career.
