Born on August 30, 1976, in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Chitrangda Singh hails from a Sikh Jat family. Her father, Niranjan Singh, is a retired army officer, and her mother is a homemaker. She has a brother, Digvijay Singh, who is a golfer, and a sister named Tina Singh. Chitrangda's upbringing was influenced by her father's transferable job, leading her to live in various cities like Kota, Rajasthan, Bareilly, and Meerut in Uttar Pradesh.

Chitrangda Singh was married to golfer Jyoti Randhawa in 2001. They have a son named Zorawar. However, the couple separated in 2013 and formally got divorced in April 2015. The custody of their son was granted to Chitrangda.

Chitrangda Singh began her career as a model before transitioning to the silver screen. After completing her college education, she started modeling with brands like ICICI bank and Alukkas Jewellery. She gained fame after appearing in Gulzar's Sunset Point music video.

She made her acting debut with the crime drama Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi in 2005. This role won her the Bollywood Movie Award for Best Female Debut. She is also known for appearing in a variety of item numbers.

Chitrangda Singh went on to appear in successful films including the crime thriller Yeh Saali Zindagi (2011), the romantic comedies Desi Boyz (2011), and I, Me Aur Main (2013), the financial thriller Baazaar (2018), the crime thriller Bob Biswas (2021), and the mystery thriller Gaslight (2023). She turned Producer with the sports drama Soorma (2018).

Chitrangda Singh has received several awards for her performances. She won the Bollywood Movie Award for Best Female Debut for the film Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi in 2006. She was also honored with the FICCI Young Women Achiever Award in 2009. In 2020, she was awarded by the Indian Council For UN Relations for Excellence in the Field of Entertainment.
