Akshay Kumar Shares Indian Citizenship Picture on Twitter on Independence Day

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar on Tuesday shared a picture of his Indian citizenship on Twitter, on the occasion of Independence Day. Kumar, who had acquired Canadian citizenship in 2009, had announced in December 2019 that he was renouncing his Canadian citizenship and applying for an Indian one.

In the tweet, Kumar wrote, "Happy Independence Day to all my fellow Indians. I am proud to be an Indian and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve my country. Jai Hind!"

Dil aur citizenship, dono Hindustani. Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind!

The tweet was met with a positive response from fans and celebrities alike. Actor Ajay Devgn wrote, "Congratulations Akshay. Jai Hind!" Actor Suniel Shetty wrote, "Proud moment for all of us. Jai Hind."

Akshay Kumar's decision to renounce his Canadian citizenship had been met with some criticism, with some people accusing him of not being patriotic enough. However, he had said that he made the decision because he wanted to "dedicate his life to India."

In an interview with the Times of India in 2019, Akshay had said, "I have always been an Indian at heart. I have never forgotten my roots. I have always wanted to do something for my country. This is my way of doing it."

Akshay's decision to share his Indian citizenship picture on Twitter is a clear indication of his commitment to India. It is also a timely reminder of the importance of patriotism on Independence Day.
