Kumble R. Subbaswamy is an Indian-American academic and administrator who served as the Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Amherst from 2012 to 2023. Born in Hubli, Karnataka, India, Subbaswamy completed his education in India and later pursued a career in academia in the United States. Subbaswamy earned his Bachelor's degree in Physics from Bangalore University, India, and his Master's and Ph.D. in Physics from Indiana University in the United States. He specialized in experimental condensed matter physics and conducted research in the field.
