Hemant Bhagwani is an Indo-Canadian chef, sommelier, restaurateur, cookbook author, and entrepreneur based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He is the first Canadian restaurateur to launch a lawsuit against insurance companies denying COVID-19 claims. On July 1, 2020, Bhagwani opened a new brunch restaurant named Egg Bird, in Leaside, Toronto. December 2022, Hemant Bhagwani is all set to bring his style of Indian cuisine to Tribeca, New York at 78 Leonard Street, the former Tetsu. March 2023, Toronto celebrity chef Hemant Bhagwani opens Goa New York in the Big Apple. Bhagwani was born in New Delhi, India, and grew up in a family of restaurateurs. He started his culinary career at the age of 16, working as a kitchen helper in his family's restaurant. After graduating from high school, he moved to Canada to study hospitality management. After graduating, Bhagwani worked as a chef at a number of restaurants in Toronto. In 2002, he opened his first restaurant, Goa Indian Farm Kitchen. The restaurant was a success, and Bhagwani went on to open a number of other successful restaurants, including Popa Burmese Kitchen, Amaya Express, and Hakka Hawker. Bhagwani is a passionate advocate for Indian cuisine, and he has been featured in a number of publications, including The Globe and Mail, Toronto Life, and Chatelaine. He is also a regular guest on television shows, such as The Food Network's "Chopped Canada" and "Top Chef Canada". Bhagwani is a recipient of the Canadian Restaurant Association's Gold Medal Plate Award, and he has been named one of the Top 40 Under 40 in Canada by the National Post. He is also a member of the World Association of Chefs' Societies. Bhagwani is a true inspiration to aspiring chefs, and he is a testament to the power of hard work and dedication.
