Shantanu Mukherjee, better known as Shaan, was born on September 30, 1972, in Mumbai, India. He hails from a musically inclined family; his father, Manas Mukherjee, was a music director, and his sister, Sagarika, is also a singer.

He began his career singing jingles for advertisements and later transitioned to singing remixes and cover versions. His breakthrough came with the album "Naujawan," followed by "Q-Funk," both of which he recorded with his sister.
