Mithun Chakraborty is an Indian actor and politician. He was born on June 16, 1950, in Barisal, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). He has appeared in over 350 films in a career spanning more than four decades.
Mithun Chakraborty started his acting career with the art house drama film "Mrigayaa" in 1976, which won him the National Film Award for Best Actor. He became popular with his roles in Hindi commercial cinema in the 1980s and 1990s, where he often played the lead or the villain. Some of his notable films include "Disco Dancer," "Agneepath," "Guru," "Wanted," and "Oh My God."
Mithun Chakraborty has also been involved in politics. He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament, by the Trinamool Congress in 2014. He resigned from the Rajya Sabha in 2016 citing health reasons.
Mithun Chakraborty has won several awards for his acting, including three National Film Awards and the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award. He is also a trained classical dancer and has choreographed and performed in many dance sequences in his films.
