He is widely recognized as the "Chocolate romantic hero" of Indian cinema during the 1980s and 1990s, celebrated for his natural acting style and charming on-screen presence.

Harish Kumar began his career as a child actor at the age of four, appearing in 19 films between 1979 and 1987 primarily in supporting roles.

He holds a unique distinction as the only male child actor to have worked in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam films. For his performance in the Telugu film "Andhra Kesari," he won the state award for best child actor in 1983 from Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao.

His breakthrough as a lead actor came with the Telugu film "Prema Khaidi" (1990), which was a major box-office hit produced by D. Ramanaidu.

This success led to his Bollywood debut in the Hindi adaptation "Prem Qaidi" (1991), where he starred alongside Karisma Kapoor in her debut film. The movie became an overnight sensation, making Kumar a teenage superstar at just 15 years old. He also gained recognition in Tamil cinema with his role in "Pudhu Vasantham" (1990), directed by Vikraman, which established him as a promising young actor.

Despite his early success, his career faced significant challenges due to health issues, including rapid weight gain and severe back pain from spinal problems that affected his mobility and appearance. These physical limitations led to a decline in acting opportunities. He attempted a comeback in 2012 with "Char Din Ki Chandni," but the film did not succeed.
