Bobby Kottarakkara

Bobby Kottarakkara (born Abdul Azeez; 11 March 1952 – 2 December 2000) was a well-known Indian actor who performed in Malayalam films and on stage.

He was born in Kottarakkara, Kerala, India, to Pareedkunju Ravuthar and Hajeera Bivi, and was their elder son.

He began his acting career on stage, where he gained recognition through his comic performance in the play “Ulluk” after starting with “Kathaprasangam”. His stage success led him to drama and eventually to the silver screen.

He made his film debut with Mucheettukalikkaarante Makal, though his first credited movie was Pallattu Kunjikannan (1980), directed by Boban Kunchako. His first mainstream film was A. B. Raj’s Aakrosam (1982), in which Prem Nazir and Sreevidya played the lead roles.

After Aakrosam, he did not receive another film opportunity for three years. His career took a significant turn in 1985 when Sibi Malayil cast him in the role of Remanan in Mutharam Kunnu P. O., which gave him a major break in the Malayalam film industry.

Following this, he became a frequent part of commercial Malayalam films, portraying memorable characters such as Gireesh in Akkare Ninnoru Maran, Appukuttan in Naradan Keralathil, Sahadevan in Vadakku Noki Yanthram, Pappan in Varavelpu, and Murukan in Mazhavil Kavadi.

Throughout his career, Bobby Kottarakkara performed in approximately 300 roles across a variety of films. Some of his notable movie appearances include Ee Sabdam Innathe Sabdam (1985), Charithram (1989), Nadodikkattu (1987), Sandesham (1991), Aaram Thamburan (1997), Pilots (2000), and Rudraksham (1994). He also acted in several television serials, expanding his presence beyond cinema.

He died on 2 December 2000 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India, at the age of 48. His death occurred during the shooting of the film Vakkalathu Narayanankutty, and it came as a shock to the film fraternity.
